Assistant Coach - Baseball(Paid by School Funds)

Job Summary
Assist the head coach in developing, organizing, and implementing the entire baseball/softball program while providing leadership to personnel and student athletes. Manage equipment maintenance, inventory, and issuance, and ensure all athletes have current physical exams and adequate insurance coverage per JPPSS and LHSAA regulations. Prepare teams for competition after the school day, often working weekends and holidays based on team needs. Maintain security of electronic and print records, compile data, and report rosters, schedules, scores, and incidents to administrators. Adhere to all LHSAA and Jefferson Parish Public School System rules and regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- CECP completion
- current LHSAA requirements
- CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions
- Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component
- Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher and/or administrator
- Must meet the requirements in Article 3.3 (Faculty Coaches) of the LHSAA handbook
- Demonstrated expertise, knowledge and competency in basic baseball/softball fundamentals
- Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for baseball/softball
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in conditioning of athletes sport specific
- Must be able to communicate in Standard English, both orally and in writing and or digitally
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system
- Must be able to communicate successfully and tactfully with students, parents and school personnel while following JPPSS policies
- Must be able to accurately communicate with members of the media
- Must be able to represent the school and or school system at various functions
- Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written reports to his/her supervisor
- Must adhere to all LHSAA assigned district, Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) rules and regulations relative to the baseball/softball program
- Must sometimes work weekends and holidays as determined by the preparedness of his/her team
- Must maintain security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and passwords that are issued for access to databases
- Must be able to move heavy athletic equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
- Ability to provide own transportation to games, work locations and meeting sites
Desired Qualifications
- Previous playing experience in baseball/softball preferred (on college or university level; minimum experience on high school level)
- Previous coaching experience on the junior varsity, junior high/middle school or other recreation activity level in baseball/softball
- Expertise, knowledge and competency in first aid for the prevention and treatment of baseball/softball injuries
