Job Summary
Entry-level Assistant City Solicitor in the City of Philadelphia Law Department's Child Welfare Unit. The role handles litigating dependency cases in Family Court, permanency hearings, termination of parental rights/adoption matters, and related DHS record matters. Responsibilities include drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs; researching and analyzing complex legal issues; presenting to arbitrators, judges, and clients; managing substantial caseloads; and acquiring courtroom skills after a one-month training interval. Must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligible for reciprocity. This is a fully onsite position located in Philadelphia with five days per week in the office.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent from ABA-accredited law school
- Bar admission to Pennsylvania or eligibility to be admitted by reciprocity to practice in Pennsylvania (Pa.B.A.R. 204)
- Entry-level position with one year plus relevant legal experience preferred
- Strong writing, analytical, and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- On-site work requirement five days per week
- Eligibility to practice law in Pennsylvania
