Job Summary
As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader and hands-on expert maintaining critical building systems across our commercial portfolio. You will lead by example in maintaining and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems; diagnose equipment malfunctions, respond to building automation alarms, and execute preventive maintenance through the CMMS. You will mentor team members in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing to elevate capabilities, track performance metrics, maintain accurate logs, ensure OSHA compliance, and provide interim leadership in the Chief Engineer's absence while coordinating emergency responses and delivering proactive, cost-saving service quality for tenants.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in commercial building maintenance and engineering with demonstrated expertise in HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and building controls
- Valid Tennessee Driver's License with ability to arrive on site within 45 minutes for emergency response situations
- Universal CFC certification to handle refrigerants and maintain compliance with environmental regulations
- Technical proficiency in diagnosing and repairing commercial HVAC equipment including chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and automation systems using industry-standard tools
- Strong leadership and teaching abilities to mentor team members, develop safety protocols (JSAs), and enforce health and safety regulations effectively
- Physical capability to perform demanding work including lifting 50+ pounds, and navigate diverse building environments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CMMS, smartphones, and multiple software platforms for documentation and communication
