Job Summary

Administer the child development center daily by managing staffing, teacher/child ratios, and parent communication while monitoring operations to keep the program running smoothly. Assist the Center Director in planning high-quality programming, ensuring correct licensing postings, and maintaining a safe environment through active supervision, head counts, and emergency response. Support teachers with documentation, training, and assessments while fostering positive relationships with families from diverse backgrounds. Follow procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and ensure accurate, compliant reporting and documentation. Maintain a healthy facility, handle equipment up to 50 pounds, and attend required meetings and trainings. Travel locally for meetings and special events as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Child Development Permit at the level of Site Supervisor or higher
  • Credential authorizing teaching in elementary school including 12 units of early childhood education
  • Single subject credential in Home Economics including 12 units of early childhood education
  • Child Development Associate credential
  • Qualifications as specified for a Head Teacher by Community Care Licensing regulations
  • Experience with the appropriate age group as commensurate with State Regulations
  • Knowledge of components of quality early childhood education
  • Completion of 15 hours of preventive health practices training with a current certificate in pediatric first aid and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association or by a training program that has been approved by the Emergency Medical Services Authority
  • Ability and sensitivity to work with a multi-ethnic community
  • Physical, mobility, strength and dexterity to lift a child weighing 30 pounds and/or weights of up to 30 pounds
  • Physical, mobility, strength and dexterity to stand and walk 4—6 hours
  • Physical, mobility, strength and dexterity to use hands for repetitive movements of grasping, fine manipulation, pushing & pulling
  • Physical, mobility, strength and dexterity to frequently bend, squatting and climbing stairs
  • Fingerprinting for criminal record clearance according to rules for Community Care Licensing
  • Criminal record clearance
  • Health requirements that include physical exam, TB and immunizations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other computer programs
  • Ability to travel locally for meetings, training and special events including some evenings
