Job Summary

Mortenson is seeking an Assistant Category Manager to develop, implement, and manage sourcing strategies for pad-mounted and skidded equipment, focusing on optimizing costs, quality, delivery, and supply chain efficiencies while maintaining supplier relationships. Responsibilities include developing category strategy, engaging with internal stakeholders across engineering, design and operations, analyzing spend and market conditions, collaborating to detail sourcing projects and benefits, adapting strategies to changing environments, supporting category reviews with metrics and risk mitigation, managing supplier relationships and business reviews, monitoring supplier quality and delivery, leveraging relationships to support expedites, assisting in financial success and pricing strategies for projects, performing monthly and annual category financial reviews, supporting cost reductions, negotiations, and developing TCO-based strategies, monitoring market drivers such as raw material pricing and capacity, forecasting and mitigating commodity inflation, and traveling as needed; the role emphasizes effective communication, collaboration across diverse teams, and alignment with Mortenson’s EOE policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, engineering, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • Current driver’s license
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen, and negotiations skills
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organization, planning and decision-making skills
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Technical understanding of power conversion technology
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30%
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
