Job Summary
Assistant Behavior Intervention Specialists (ABIS) are responsible for various tasks including leading community inclusion activities, ensuring health and safety of individuals in programs, implementing Behavior Support Plans, and conducting behavioral assessments. The role requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field, and involves working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Candidates should have exceptional communication skills and the ability to train staff. The position has physically demanding aspects, requiring the ability to lift or move individuals and handle various physical tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or closely related Human Services discipline
- At least six (6) months of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)
- Working knowledge of behavioral/psychiatric conditions
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Ability and willingness to lead, direct and teach others
- Must hold foundational certifications for current service setting
- Ability to meet essential physical demands of position
- Strong clinical skills
- Ability to remain calm and display professional competence in stressful situations
- Proficiency with computers and electronic systems
- Ability to work on a full-time basis, including weekends
Desired Qualifications
- Active pursuit of a Master’s degree in clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology or applied psychology.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or closely related Human Services discipline.
- Two (2) or more years of experience working within the field of I/DD
