Assistant Bar Manager

Job Summary

Lead and develop bar, catering, and retail operations at a multi-faceted venue with on-site drinks production, including vineyard and gin output. Control budgets, review costings, and manage purchasing consortia to optimize profit margins while ensuring staffing levels meet business needs. Supervise the bar team, deputise for the Bar Manager, and implement departmental policies and procedures. Liaise with the Bar Manager to increase sales, promote opportunities via social media, and manage client relationships for non-residential functions. Ensure compliance with health, safety, hygiene regulations, and University policies. Brief shifts, compile staff rots, and handle first-line performance management. This role supports a prestigious education institution and events venue in Gloucestershire.

Required Qualifications

  • Natural leadership ability
  • Ability to adapt to different types of events and revenue streams
  • Experience of different types of venues ranging from hotels to the more traditional pub/bar sector
  • Understanding of budgets and departmental financial performance
  • Ability to control budgets
  • Ability to provide reviews on costings, customer satisfaction and operating margins
  • Ability to develop, motivate, manage and train team
  • Ability to identify training needs through a regular appraisal system
  • Ability to ensure adequate staffing levels at all times
  • Ability to work within budgetary parameters
  • Ability to achieve departmental KPI's
  • Ability to supervise the bar team
  • Ability to deputise for Bar Manager
  • Ability to ensure financial, operational and strategic targets are met
  • Ability to produce written performance reports
  • Ability to work with purchasing consortia and suppliers
  • Ability to optimise prices to achieve budgeted profit margins
  • Ability to increase sales, promotional opportunities and develop commercial business
  • Ability to deliver first class customer experience
  • Ability to produce and implement a departmental policy and procedure
  • Ability to review policy and procedure annually
  • Ability to handle all departmental administration
  • Ability to manage client management of non-residential function business
  • Ability to utilise the social media strategy
  • Ability to promote business and opportunities
  • Ability to apply and adhere to health, safety and hygiene regulations
  • Awareness of and compliance with all University Policy and procedure
  • Ability to brief the shift with the levels of business
  • Ability to ensure the team is efficiently deployed to meet the business need
