Job Summary
Director-level, non-tenure track faculty role overseeing operations at the CKWRI Ocelot Conservation Facility (OCF) and providing veterinary guidance across CKWRI research endeavors. Responsibilities include establishing and operating the OCF, collaborating with scientists and stakeholders toward ocelot recovery, providing veterinary care and support for CKWRI research, teaching one graduate course every other year (wildlife nutrition/physiology or related area), and overseeing facility resources and compliance. The position combines administration, service, and teaching duties (approximately 87.5% administration/service and 12.5% teaching) with a 9-month appointment and summer salary support to ensure uninterrupted efforts, with potential for an official research appointment based on candidate qualifications and interest.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM) or equivalent
- Experience providing ex situ veterinary care to wild animals
- Experience in ex situ animal management and care
- Demonstrated leadership potential (e.g., managing a team, chairing committees, leading initiatives)
- Ability to instruct courses in wildlife nutrition, wildlife physiology, or related areas with effective teaching techniques
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, professionals, lay audiences, and scientists
- Licensure in the state of Texas within 4 months of hire
- DEA registration within 3 months of obtaining licensure in Texas
- USDA Accreditation, Category II status within 4 months of hire
- Required Licenses and Certifications (NAVLE or NBE & CCT)
