Job Summary
The Assistant / Associate Conservator of Works of Art on Paper will be responsible for examining works of art on paper, assessing their condition, and preparing examination reports. The candidate will recommend and perform conservation treatments, coordinate treatment plans with curators, and participate in preservation activities including exhibition preparation and environmental monitoring. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree with a focus on paper conservation and relevant post-graduate experience, demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a commitment to collaborative and ethical practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and completion of a graduate-level program in conservation with specialization in paper conservation
- Two to five or more years post-graduate experience in the conservation of paper-based materials
- Five to eight years of post-graduate experience to be considered at the Associate level
- Familiarity with the range of materials in the MFAH’s collections
- Knowledge of museum best practices and collections management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
