Job Summary
Assistant Accountant role in Auckland NZ delivering accurate financial reporting and trusted support across contracts. Responsibilities include supporting month-end processes (journals, accruals, reconciliations, invoicing and profit recognition), preparing monthly and ad-hoc financial reports for decision-making, assisting with overhead and cost analysis and driving cost-out initiatives, managing invoicing, debtors and accounts payable in line with Downer policies, and collaborating with finance, contract and operational teams to identify risks and support strong financial governance. Requires a accounting degree or equivalent, plus experience with financial reporting, month-end processes and reconciliations, strong Excel and enterprise systems familiarity (SAP, WMS, Coupa), and a proactive, detail-oriented, collaborative approach.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in Accounting or equivalent
- Experience supporting financial reporting, month-end processes and reconciliations in a fast-paced environment
- Strong Excel and systems capability; exposure to SAP, WMS or Coupa highly regarded
- Collaborative, confident communication style; ability to build positive working relationships across teams
- Proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, ability to work independently while contributing to shared team goals
