Lead daily news planning and assignment activities by evaluating story opportunities, prioritizing coverage, and coordinating reporters, photographers, and multimedia staff to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Monitor breaking news and emerging trends to make real-time decisions on resource allocation while collaborating with editors to develop coverage plans and manage editorial workflows. Review story pitches and reporting progress, providing guidance on sourcing and angles, and cultivate relationships with sources and stakeholders to support newsgathering. Oversee newsroom schedules, assignment budgets, and logistical arrangements, ensuring assigned coverage adheres to organizational standards for accuracy, fairness, and ethics. Contribute finished products meeting VOA standards to production elements for broadcast and web, including fine editing of taped material. As assigned, develop standard operating procedures, serve as line producer to manage broadcast timing, and edit copy for inclusion in stories.
