Job Summary
The Assembly Weld Engineer will plan, specify, launch, and support MIG and resistance spot welding equipment and automation for automotive manufacturing, owning equipment development from concept through production launch. Working hands-on with welding technologies, automation suppliers, and plant operations, the role ensures robust, repeatable manufacturing processes, supports PPAP activities, and maintains automotive quality standards. Responsibilities include interpreting customer requirements into equipment specifications and validation criteria, leading equipment installation and ramp-up, coordinating supplier management and vendor coordination, troubleshooting welding and robotics systems (notably ABB robots), and providing training to operators and maintenance teams to improve reliability, quality, and throughput.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting automotive metal assemblies and welding
- Direct experience with MIG and spot welding in an automotive manufacturing environment
- Proven experience ordering equipment and managing automation suppliers through launch
- Strong hands-on background supporting welding equipment, robotics, and assembly processes
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred (Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related discipline)
