Job Summary
Perform axle, housing, head, brake, and subassembly operations for truck and heavy-duty tandem or straight axle housings, air shift assemblies, and Central Tire Inflation Systems. Select parts, verify numbers, and execute assembly sequences using hoists, hand tools, presses, and jigs. Press fit bearings, align gears, torque studs to tolerances, and conduct visual inspections to report defects. Maintain work areas, observe safety regulations, and assist in training others. Work at assigned stations in standing position following verbal and written instructions. Flexible to work any shift, including overtime of 2 or 4 hours daily during the week and up to 8 hours on weekends. Starting wage is $21.00/hour.
Required Qualifications

- Must be able to lift, move or transport parts and subassemblies
- Must be able to use hoists or other manual aids
- Must be able to use dial gauges, protractors, various hand tools and hammers
- Must be able to use electric and air driven equipment such as stud drivers, nut runners, presses, screwdrivers, grinders and deburrers
- Must be able to make use of jigs, fixtures, and other holding devices
- Must be able to use oils, greases, paints and sealants
- Must be able to press fit bearings, shafts and cylinders
- Must be able to build-up and align pinions, gears, air shift assemblies, heads and housings
- Must be able to hand torque studs, bolts and fittings
- Must be able to assemble and disassemble storage racks
- Must be able to assemble cams, brake shoes, springs, covers, air chambers and axles
- Must be able to perform visual inspection of parts prior to assembly
- Must be able to detect and report any defective parts and materials, equipment malfunctions or assembly difficulties
- Must be able to maintain work area and equipment in prescribed manner
- Must be able to observe safety regulations
- Must be able to assist in elimination safety hazards
- Must be able to assist and train others as necessary
- Must be reliable
