Asbestos Abatement Coordinator

Job Summary

Maintain open communication with central and regional Facilities departments to provide technical support for asbestos and lead issues. Prepare site assessments and abatement designs, then review environmental consultants' Phase 1, 2, and 3 reports for accuracy. Survey sites to recommend mitigation methods, prepare job estimates, and create reports describing inspection findings based on construction drawings. Plan the repair, removal, or encapsulation of asbestos-containing materials and manage lead-based paint abatement. Conduct environmental project monitoring during construction to ensure compliance with laws and safety regulations, investigate accidents, and perform bulk sampling or wipe testing. Update project tracking sheets and use Maximo to plan job progress and report labor charges. Requires five years of professional construction experience or relevant certifications, with a salary range of $90K-$115K.

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years full time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring and abatement
  • 2 years full time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement
  • Certification from the State of CA as Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)
  • Certification from the State of CA as Certified Asbestos Consultant
  • Possession of Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), asbestos course certificates (Building Inspector, Management Planner, Contractor/Supervisor and Project Designer)
  • Possession of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification
  • Possession of CA Department of Health (CDPH) Lead certification (Inspector/Assessor/Project Monitor)
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering or any related field
