Asbestos Abatement Coordinator

Job Summary

Maintain open communication with central and regional Facilities departments to provide technical support for asbestos and lead issues. Prepare site assessments and abatement designs, then review consultant reports for accuracy. Survey sites to recommend mitigation methods and prepare job estimates for project assessment. Plan repair, removal, or encapsulation of asbestos-containing materials and manage lead-based paint abatement. Conduct environmental project monitoring during construction to ensure compliance with laws and safety regulations. Investigate accidents on school grounds and perform bulk sampling or wipe testing to assess exposure risks. Update project tracking sheets and use Maximo to plan progress and report labor charges.

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring and abatement
  • 2 years of full-time paid professional construction experience on projects involving environmental (asbestos/lead) assessment, sampling, design, monitoring, and abatement, plus a Certification from the State of California as a Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST)
  • Certification from the State of California as a Certified Asbestos Consultant
  • Possession of Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) asbestos course certificates (Building Inspector, Management Planner, Contractor/Supervisor, and Project Designer)
  • Possession of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification
  • Possession of CA Department of Health (CDPH) Lead Certification (Inspector/Assessor/Project Monitor)
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
  • Candidates without a degree must have additional years of experience to compensate for education on a year-for-year basis
  • Candidates must be willing and able to work on-site in accordance with District policy
