Job Summary
Analyze project maps, plans, and data sets to summarize wildfire conditions for reports and evacuation management plans. Conduct field assessments to evaluate wildfire and evacuation hazard conditions, then analyze field and GIS data while researching project specifics. Prepare or support the development of fire protection plans, technical reports, and fire hazard reduction recommendations. Attend meetings to discuss assessment results and collaborate with landowners and agencies on mitigation strategies. This remote role requires travel to project sites and fire agency offices in the western US, with potential outdoor work in extreme weather. A Bachelor's degree in fire science or related fields is required, along with a valid driver's license and insurance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in fire science, forestry, natural resources, fire ecology, homeland security, environmental science, or other related field
- Ability to conduct research and evaluate data sets and planning documents and summarize pertinent information into reports
- Ability to understand and interpret site development plan drawings
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment
- Must be able to travel to project sites and client or fire agency offices in the western US
- Must be able to bend, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift
- Must be capable of specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must have U.S. work authorization
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with federal, state and local building, development, and defensible space codes and standards
- Excellent writing skills
- GIS/CAD mapping skills
- Understanding of microsimulation traffic modeling such as VISSIM
