Job Summary

ARTS PROGRAM OFFICER — Toronto, ON. Responsibilities include delivering exhibits, community arts programs and events at the Etobicoke Civic Centre’s two art galleries; overseeing day-to-day Arts Services operations (coordination of operations and bookings, exhibit contracts, promotions and installations/teardowns); developing, implementing and evaluating programs, exhibits and special events; conducting research related to arts programs, grants and sponsorships; building outreach and partnerships to support Culture Plan priorities; delivering customer service and information to arts organizations, artists, educators and the public; creating and maintaining content for public information (web and brochures) and promotional content (social media); maintaining statistical reports and records; processing invoices and payments; recruiting, training and supervising volunteers; assisting with exhibit opportunities and budget development; and supporting fundraising and financial procedures. Minimum qualifications include post-secondary education in arts administration or related field, substantial gallery/arts facility administration and volunteer-management experience, proficiency with MS Office, ActiveNet and Adobe Creative Suite, experience with exhibition installation and fragile art handling, strong programming background, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, customer service and publicity-writing abilities, capability to lead teams and partnerships, and commitment to equity and inclusion. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends and may require First Aid and Smart Serve certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education; degree, diploma or certificate in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education in arts administration, visual or performing arts, or community arts engagement
  • Considerable administrative and practical experience in an art gallery and/or community cultural facility setting
  • Considerable experience in volunteer management
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel), facility booking software (ActiveNet) and design programs within Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with technical requirements in gallery operations including exhibition installation and fragile art handling
  • A strong background in arts programming
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask with minimum direction
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all organizational levels and with diverse cultural groups, volunteers, artists and the public
  • Strong customer service, public relations and conflict management skills
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create publicity materials for print and digital media promotion
  • Able to develop and sustain partnerships and to lead project teams, internal and external
  • Experience working and/or providing support to IBPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomer and other underserved equity-owed communities demonstrating cultural competency
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to gallery installations, including moderate load carrying
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Valid First Aid certification
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain Smart Serve certification and familiarity with the Municipal Alcohol Policy
  • Ability to regularly work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Desired Qualifications
