Job Summary
Instruct, mentor, and engage Scouts (ages 11-17) in arts, media, and handicraft merit badges while presenting to groups of 5-20 youth to transfer knowledge and empower skill application. Coordinate instructional materials, turn in accurate advancement paperwork, and model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions. Assist with setup, maintenance, and takedown of program areas, maintaining a clean, safe work environment. Participate in camp-wide activities including campfires and evening programs, while adhering to SBR staff handbook policies. Requires standing, walking, and hiking up to 8 hours daily with the ability to lift 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 18+
- Comfortable speaking and presenting in front of youth and adults
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
- Ability to stand, walk, and hike, up to 8 hours daily
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
- Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp
- Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform
- Work Hours: 50+
- Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
- Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
- Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Desired Qualifications
- Previous art, sculpture, photography, videography, communication, chess, and/or Scouting experience preferred
- High emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)
- Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills
- Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
