Job Summary

Conduct line dance classes and specialized arts enrichment sessions for all ages in group and individual settings at multiple South Suburban locations. Teach birthday parties and special events offsite while maintaining course records, managing supply inventory, and ensuring equipment safety. Adapt instruction techniques to meet participant needs, enforce safety rules, and respond to public inquiries or emergency situations. Travel to regular classes and events, attend staff meetings, and secure substitutes when unable to work scheduled shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least one (1) year of teaching experience in line dance
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of employment
  • Must be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment
  • Must be able to demonstrate and perform the techniques unique to varying art disciplines
  • Must be able to push, pull or balance
  • Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted
  • Must be able to lift/move a maximum of 75 pounds with assistance
  • Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, and depth perception and color vision
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift
  • Must exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects
  • Must be able to talk and hear via the telephone, email, and through face-to-face communication
  • Must be able to work with students in a constructive and caring manner while creating unique and fun experiences and teaching safety in the classroom
  • Must be able to communicate verbally with both children and adults
  • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a noisy environment
  • Must be able to work in a busy office environment subject to continuous interruptions
  • Must be able to work outside subject to variable weather, ecosystems and landscapes
  • Must be prepared, creative and energized when teaching
  • Must provide a safe learning environment and manage the classroom effectively
  • Must keep students in line of vision at all times
  • Must enforce safety and program rules, policies, and regulations
  • Must recognize emergency and dangerous situations by reacting quickly and calmly
  • Must administer first aid as needed
  • Must respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner
  • Must resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner
  • Must correct or inform supervisor of any facility hazards
  • Must communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed
  • Must attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations
  • Must travel offsite to regular classes and special events to instruct and lead art and enrichment classes
  • Must attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis
  • Must be able to subs for co-workers when available
  • Must be responsible for securing substitutes for all scheduled and published shifts if unable to work
  • Must be able to adapt instruction techniques to meet the needs of participants
  • Must maintain course records and rosters
  • Must communicate with co-workers, patrons and coordinators effectively and efficiently
  • Must present relevant content to students by showing examples of selected dances, provide students with demonstrations and ways to practice line dance
  • Must help promote arts and enrichment programming
  • Must ensure that appropriate equipment/supplies are available for classes and events
  • Must set up and take down
  • Must perform required cleaning
  • Must inspect and report tool/equipment condition on a regular basis to ensure safe use
  • Must monitor supply inventory and ensure responsible use of supplies to prevent waste
  • Must be knowledgeable of positive interaction techniques with children, students and their parents, adult and senior students, and staff
  • Must be able to demonstrate use of positive interaction techniques in all interactions

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience teaching art and/or enrichment is preferred
  • Current certifications in AED/CPR and First Aid preferred
