Job Summary
Elementary School Art Teacher responsible for delivering standards-aligned visual arts instruction to K–4 students in New Haven, CT. Responsibilities include designing engaging lessons across drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and mixed media; differentiating instruction for ELs and students with IEPs; using portfolios, rubrics, and student reflections to assess growth; integrating culturally responsive materials and anti-racist pedagogy; collaborating with classroom teachers to support interdisciplinary learning; partnering with families and the community to showcase student work; leading enrichment opportunities such as art clubs and school-wide exhibitions; participating in weekly professional learning communities and collaborating with grade-level teams to share best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Valid teaching certification in Art Education or Elementary Education with arts endorsement (CT certification or eligibility for reciprocity required)
- At least 2–3 years of teaching experience
- Ability to create a classroom environment in which students feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore creatively
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, youth development, social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and culturally responsive pedagogy
- Deep alignment with the mission and values of ECS and BTWA, including a resolute belief in the potential of every student
