Job Summary
Patrol assigned property to prevent crime, observe suspicious activity, and act on conditions of danger. Make arrests as appropriate, provide credible court testimony, and prepare detailed reports on incidents and daily activity. Check buildings for security while maintaining composure under stress and applying crime prevention techniques. Follow all safety policies, participate in ongoing training, and deliver professional customer service through courteous behavior and creative problem resolution. Schedule includes Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 7 pm. Starting pay is $20 hourly with paid uniforms, holiday pay, and medical/dental insurance. Requires a PERC license, FOID, and 230 certificate.
Required Qualifications
- High school qualification or equivalent
- At least 21 years of age
- United States Citizen
- Military or Law Enforcement background
- Ability to obtain a PERC license within 30 days of employment
- Valid FOID
- Ability to obtain a 230 certificate within 30 days of employment
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to meet the department's insurance requirements
- No felony or misdemeanor conviction that reflects adversely on the capacity to serve as a security officer
- Ability to apply criminal justice and crime prevention techniques
- Ability to read and interpret laws and orders
- Ability to perform departmentally authorized use of force techniques to affect the physical arrest of criminal suspects
- Ability to maintain composure in adverse conditions
- Advanced ability to operate firearms and equipment safely, skillfully and in conformance with all laws and regulations
- Ability to work under stress and remain calm and to calm other people during rapidly changing circumstances
- Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting, events happening at the same time
- Knowledge of computers for scheduling, reporting, and other duties
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with others under any type of condition
- Ability to pass criminal background check
- Ability to pass drug screening
- Ability to pass psychological evaluation
- Ability to pass written test
- Ability to pass physical test
- Must be able to carry objects over 50 pounds
