Job Summary
Area Supervisor, Production – Load & Haul (Rompad) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a designated work area within the Load and Haul section, ensuring safe, efficient deployment of personnel and equipment to meet shift production targets while complying with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Responsibilities include supervising Operators and Assistants, allocating and monitoring equipment, conducting pre-shift and post-shift inspections, enforcing safe work practices, identifying and addressing operational issues, motivating the team, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining shift records, and coordinating with maintenance. The role requires strong leadership of small teams, adherence to production goals, and effective communication with stakeholders. The position requires a Grade 12 certificate, mining-related qualification, blasting license, first aid, and a driving license, plus 3–5 years in open-pit mining with 2+ years in a supervisory role, along with knowledge of heavy mining equipment, production scheduling, and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Diploma or Certificate in Mining, Mineral Science, or a related qualification
- Valid Blasting License
- First Aid Certificate
- Driver’s License
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in open-pit mining, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong technical knowledge of heavy mining equipment and their operations (trucks, loaders, excavators, dozers, etc.)
- Good understanding of production scheduling, equipment utilization, and operational safety standards
- Demonstrated ability to lead small teams and resolve field-level operational challenges
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Competent in basic computer use and mining-related software systems
