Job Summary
Provide maintenance support to assigned schools by responding to work orders from principals or the maintenance office. Replace light bulbs, ballasts, receptacles, and switches; change HVAC filters on a routine schedule. Check fire extinguishers weekly, inspect and clean roofs and gutters, and perform light carpentry and electrical repairs. Maintain bathroom fixtures, plumbing, and school equipment while replacing glass in windows and doors. Address minor repairs to drywall, floor and ceiling tiles, and perform weekly checks on boiler systems. Respond to after-hour emergencies as requested and assist paint and carpentry crews during summer months.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or equivalent
- Considerable experience in one or more of the trades common to building maintenance
- Valid North Carolina driver's license
- Maintain a school electrical license
- Must be able to: walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch
- Must be able to: work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
- Must be able to: use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
- Must be able to: visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
- Must be able to: use a variety of measuring devices
- Must be able to: assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm's length
- Must be able to: operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools and job specific equipment and tools
- Must be able to: determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
- Must be able to: observe general surroundings and activities
- Must be able to: hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
- Must be able to: use communication by means of the spoken word to express or exchange ideas
- Must be able to: safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens, which may require specialized personal protective equipment
