Job Summary
The Archives Processing Assistant supports day-to-day operations by assisting with the arrangement, description, preservation, and provision of access to archival materials. This role creates and maintains collection guides in ArchivesSpace, ensures usable and well-documented workflows, and applies preservation best practices in handling, housing, and storing materials. Requires an ALA-accredited Master's in library/information science or archival program and at least 1 year of archival processing experience; duties include processing papers, photographs, memorabilia, and other items, handling physical materials (lifting up to 50 pounds, cartloads up to 150 pounds, ladders, bending), and contributing to metadata and documentation. Proficiency with archival systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace) and general computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, XML) is required. Compensation is up to $25.50 per hour (annualized as applicable). The role is based in Worcester, MA, USA, and is non-exempt.
Required Qualifications
- ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science or archival program
- 1 or more years of experience processing archival materials in various formats
