Job Summary
Lead preparation of architectural specifications for complex projects, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with project teams to develop strategic approaches for material selection, sustainability, and constructability while researching and integrating the latest building technologies and regulatory requirements. Train and mentor junior team members, oversee the development of Division 1 General Requirements, and coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors to resolve specification challenges. Represent the firm in professional organizations to contribute thought leadership and maintain active membership in the Construction Specifications Institute.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Architecture
- Licensed to practice architecture in a minimum of one U.S. state
- 10+ years of experience in architectural specifications writing
- Advanced knowledge of CSI MasterFormat
- Expertise in building codes, sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL), and industry regulations
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and deliver high-quality specifications on time
- Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) or equivalent professional certification
- Experience working on large-scale, high-profile projects across multiple sectors
- In-depth knowledge of emerging trends in materials, construction technology, and sustainability practices
- Experience with integrated project delivery methods, including design-build and GC/CM contracts
- Proficient with verbal and written communication skills
- Possess a working knowledge of office network and web research abilities associated with the responsibilities
- Understand how project manuals are produced and be familiar with Word, Bluebeam, and Adobe software
Desired Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Architecture
- Architect: Licensed to practice architecture in a minimum of one U.S. state
- CSI CDT Certification
- Leadership experience
- Advanced knowledge of specifications writing software (e.g., BSD SpecLink), and contract documentation
- Solid skills with Integrus standard computer programs
- Experience with integrated project delivery methods, including design-build and GC/CM contracts
- Maintain active membership in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)
- Seek opportunities to improve professional skills
- Assist in maintaining a complete resource center
