Job Summary
Conduct examination of building permit applications, including blueprints, specifications, surveys, product approvals, and shop drawings for compliance with the Florida Building Code and related regulations. Provide clear commentary on code violations with required code sections, prepare written and electronic reports, and issue notices of correction. Approve building permit applications found to be in compliance and recognize, evaluate, and resolve unique problems or situations. Meet with design professionals, contractors, and other interested parties to discuss technical code issues, inspect buildings for compliance, and maintain all required records and reports. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
Required Qualifications
- State of Florida Architect license (RA)
- Professional architecture degree – Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture
- 5+ years of experience as an architect working in a private practice or municipality reviewing plans for residential or commercial buildings
- Must meet the minimum education, licenses and experience requirements to be certified or certifiable by the Miami-Dade or Broward Board of Rules and Appeals
- Must have knowledge of the Florida Building Code and other regulations pertaining to construction and development
- Ability to understand and interpret codes and evaluate project proposals and projects under construction to verify conformance with code requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Floodplain certification is a plus!
