Job Summary
Provide timely architectural support for Navy, Marine Corps, and Supported Commands facilities, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, verify scoping requirements, and monitor construction progress. Develop architectural designs covering programming, space planning, concept design, sustainable practices, and code compliance. Review third-party designs, analyze furnished drawings, and provide QA/QC feedback on specifications and cost estimates. Collaborate with project stakeholders and engineering disciplines to ensure system coordination. Travel approximately 10% of the time. This role supports NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, VA, delivering services across diverse facility types including housing, medical, and industrial operations.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of professional, code-compliant architectural facilities design experience involving new construction and renovations
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)
- Registration as a Licensed Architect (RA)
- Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and policies
- Knowledge of the International Building Code
- Knowledge of the Life Safety Code
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards
- Knowledge of standard architectural design practices
- Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting architectural design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR
- Knowledge of and experience with Autodesk software, including AutoCAD and Revit
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of architectural design and analysis software
- Knowledge of other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
- Ability to document analytical results, review and consolidate others' findings, evaluate recommendations, and deliver oral presentations regarding proposed designs and study results
- Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques
- Ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
- Knowledge of and full compliance with applicable safety policies and guidance, including the proper use of personal protective equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences
- Highly motivated and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently
- Travel approximately 10% of the time

- Broad professional knowledge and skill in architectural concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques necessary to plan, design, manage, construct, preserve, restore, rehabilitate, oversee, and maintain a wide range of shore installation facilities projects
- Knowledge of related architectural and engineering disciplines and their associated impacts on architectural design
