Job Summary

Administer archaeological provisions under the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 and deliver archaeological services for applications and compliance under Fast-Track Approvals processes. Conduct archaeological assessment, investigation, and reporting while raising awareness of archaeology in New Zealand. Communicate expert advice to internal and external stakeholders including consultants, property owners, local authorities, developers, and whānau. Requires a Master of Arts in Archaeology and experience in New Zealand statutory processes. Based in Dunedin with a salary of $71,291 - $83,872. Applicants must have NZ citizenship or a current working visa.

Required Qualifications

  • knowledge and experience of the statutory archaeological processes under the HNZPTA 2014
  • skills and competence in archaeological assessment and investigation and reporting
  • experience in the direction or management of archaeological works
  • adaptability and proven ability to deliver work within rapid timeframes
  • effectively communicate expert archaeological advice to both internal and external stakeholders including archaeological consultants, property owners, local authorities, developers and whānau/hapū/iwi and professionals in other fields
  • A Master of Arts in Archaeology (or equivalent)
  • experience in New Zealand archaeology
  • NZ citizenship or a current working visa
