Job Summary
Conduct archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and excavation in Puerto Rico to identify, record, and evaluate historic and prehistoric cultural resources. Recognize archaeological signatures, evaluate resources, and respectfully treat suspected human remains per State and Federal guidelines. Maintain accurate field documentation including notes, maps, logs, and artifact inventories while performing daily quality control on field data. Utilize GPS and electronic navigation tools to document findings, and collaborate with landowners, clients, and regulatory staff. Procure and maintain field equipment and laboratory supplies. This on-call role involves rotations of 10/4, 6/1, or 5/2 schedules with travel time included. Requires a graduate degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, SOI qualifications, and experience with Caribbean archaeology.
Required Qualifications
- Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualifications for archaeology
- Live in Puerto Rico at time of hire
- Experience with Caribbean archaeology
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in variable terrain and environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
- Demonstrative knowledge of and familiarity with performing archaeological monitoring, survey and excavation
- Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field
- Eligible to be employed in the United States on federally contracted projects
- Must be able to travel for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work flexible availability outside of standard working hours
- Must pass results from a pre-employment drug screen
- Must be able to adhere to project health and safety plans and participate in office and field trainings and meetings
