Job Summary
Conduct evaluative test or data recovery excavations, including digging, screening soil, recovering artifacts, and maintaining documentary data forms, maps, sketches, and photographs. Perform regulatory and due diligence surveys for infrastructure, land development, and energy projects, utilizing GIS mapping, background documentation, and photography to delineate site boundaries. Process artifacts and samples through cataloging and curation efforts while adhering to agency guidelines, project scopes, and safety protocols. Maintain equipment and supply inventories. Communicate effectively with project teams, co-workers, and clients. Report to the Field Director, Project Archaeologist, or Senior Archaeologist as needed. This entry-level hourly position supports cultural resources management and compliance for clients in the transportation, energy, land development, and municipal sectors. Local and overnight travel throughout the Southeastern U.S. is required, with part-time roles available for flexible scheduling.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an archaeological field school
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment
- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk
- Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field, preferred
- Some knowledge of state and federal historic preservation regulations
- Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment to assist with site boundary delineations and navigation
- Excellent communication skills
