Job Summary
Arabic Reviewer/Editor/Certifier for DOJ Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating, transcribing, and interpreting a wide range of legal, technical, medical, financial, and government materials from English to Arabic (and vice versa), maintaining accuracy without alterations, preserving tone and register, and applying subject-matter terminology across diverse domains. Requires experience with translations using CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio), strong English proficiency, ILR 4 or equivalent, and at least one year in a law enforcement or legal environment. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have resided in the U.S. within the past five years, and be prepared for some travel. The role is remote with National Capital Region (DC area) and other CONUS locations also indicated.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in required language with superior English and editing
- ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- At least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- U.S. citizen
- Know vocabulary in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes in English and foreign language
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in translation resources and reference materials
- Fluent in native language with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve tone and register of source materials
- Adhere to linguist ethics
- Proficient in CAD tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher
- Location: Remote / NCR / CONUS Travel: Some travel may be required
