Job Summary
Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas while performing direct service as a lifeguard, swim instructor, or a combination of both for 90% of your time. Assist the Aquatics Supervisor with recruiting, orientation, and on-site training of new lifeguard staff, acting as a role model for part-time aquatic team members. Inspect and maintain emergency equipment, document drop drills and aquatic quick checks, and accurately complete all safety and maintenance records. Act as Aquatics Supervisor on duty when absent and actively participate in membership retention efforts. Requires 24 months of lifeguarding experience, current Lifeguard and CPR certifications, and ability to work weekend and evening shifts.
Required Qualifications
- 21 years of age or older
- minimum of 24 months of lifeguarding experience
- ability to work weekend and evening shifts
- current Lifeguard certification
- current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- current Standard First Aid certification
- current Emergency Oxygen Administration – O2 certification
- current Automated External Defibrillation – AED certification
- current Blood Borne Pathogens and Darkness to Light certification (within 90 days)
- ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills
- ability to communicate verbally with good voice projection and clarity
- ability to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment
- ability to remain alert without lapses in consciousness for extended periods of time
- ability to lift 50+ lbs. from the floor and 200+ lbs. in rescue situations
- ability to sit for extended periods of time, including in an elevated chair
- ability to ascend and descend ladders
- ability to stand for long periods of time
- ability to bend or stoop to reach various height levels
Desired Qualifications
- Lifeguard Instructor and WSI or YMCA Swim Instructor certifications
