Aquatics Director

Job Summary

Manage the Aquatics Department budget, coordinate swim lessons and Safe Start programs, and develop new onsite and off-site initiatives to meet enrollment goals. Oversee staff hiring, training, and lifeguard certification audits while ensuring strict adherence to YMCA safety protocols, risk management procedures, and health codes. Maintain clean program areas, coordinate participant schedules, and support the Executive Director in fundraising campaigns to exceed dollars, donors, and volunteer targets. Provide oversight for the Swim 4 Jenny week and Family Center swim team, while creating marketing materials and communicating with members. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Health or Physical Education, 2-4 years of aquatics experience with a $250K+ budget, and current lifeguard, CPR, and oxygen administration certifications. The position is full-time, based at the YMCA of South Florida, and requires driving to off-site locations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education or related field
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of Aquatics program experience with a budget exceeding 250K
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
  • YMCA Lifeguard Certified or Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, Certified Pool Operator (CPO or AFO) and Swim Instructor Certified
  • First Aid/CPR/AED, CPRO and oxygen administration certified
  • YMCA Team Leader certification
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to respond in safety and emergency situations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Avid swimmer

  • Must be in good physical health with full range of body motion
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours
  • Must be willing to work under stressful conditions
  • Must submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprint background screening
  • Must successfully complete a drug test

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education or related field, preferred
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred but not required
