Job Summary
Oversee aquatics program development and operations while assisting the Aquatics Director and Branch Director. Lead program activities, recruit and onboard diverse staff and volunteers, and manage daily communications, reports, and registrations. Provide direct support through lifeguarding, swim instruction, and safety training, including emergency response and abuse risk management. Create and execute new program ideas quarterly and assist with fundraising and special events. Manage pool schedule coverage and ensure all certifications remain current. Work weekends and evenings as needed, with potential summer off-site camp assignments.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Six months to one-year related experience
- Minimum age of 21
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- AED certification
- First Aid certification
- Emergency Oxygen certification
- Lifeguard Training certification
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification
- Related USA swimming certifications
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
- Ability to comfortably respond to emergencies
- Ability to demonstrate and perform all essential lifeguarding and aquatic skills, including water rescues and emergency response procedures
- Ability to swim, tread water, and remain alert in an aquatic environment for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods, including monitoring pool areas and deck activity
- Ability to hear and see distress signals and respond quickly in a noisy and active environment
- Ability to lift, carry, and position equipment or assist participants, typically up to 30–50 pounds
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach as needed to support program activities and safety
- Ability to work in a warm, humid, and sometimes wet environment for extended periods
- Ability to maintain focus, vigilance, and quick reaction time to ensure participant safety at all times
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities

- Actively supports all DEIB efforts
- Follow employee/volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk
- Provide employee/volunteer with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk
- Provide employee/volunteer with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth
- Require employee/volunteer to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization's progressive disciplinary procedures
- Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors
- Follow mandated reporting requirements
- Communicate to all employees/volunteers the organization's commitment to protect youth from abuse
- Report essential abuse risk management information appropriately and timely so it can be escalated as necessary
Desired Qualifications
- Lifeguard Instructor certification
- Completion or working toward completion of Y USA Team Leader Certification
- Reliable and enthusiastic
- High School diploma preferred
- Six months to one-year related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics supervisor or swim instructor
