Job Summary
Deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French. Build and maintain a course site in the university’s LMS, select source texts appropriate to student levels and outcomes, integrate theoretical, conceptual, and terminological content with instruction on translation, and provide detailed feedback on translation-oriented exercises. Coordinate with program leadership to maintain program learning outcomes and coherence while upholding academic freedom. The course focuses on translating from French to English in increasingly specialized fields (administrative, technical, scientific), using translation, postediting, and bilingual editing techniques, and adapting translations to various media and contexts. The role will be offered as a Regular Part-Time Professor for the Winter 2027 term, in-person at the University of Ottawa’s Main Campus in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, with an emphasis on active engagement, tool usage, and adherence to institutional policies and training requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Translation or Translation Studies
- Membership in a recognized association or order of professional translators in the French-to-English language combination, and/or equivalent academic and professional experience
- Extensive professional experience as a French to English translator, preferably in Canada
- Strong conceptual and terminological knowledge, familiarity with textual conventions, and translation experience in two or more fields of specialization
- University-level teaching experience is an asset
- Professional-level language skills in English (active) and French (passive)
- Ability to deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French
