Job Summary
APS Investigator Specialist I-IV investigates reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of elderly or disabled adults; conducts home visits and interviews clients, family members, and others to assess risk; develops individualized service plans and maintains documentation; provides crisis intervention, counseling, information, and referrals; may testify in court and help arrange alternate housing; participates in community awareness and public information efforts; may work in lead capacity in the absence of a supervisor; requires frequent travel and field-based work with up to 60-75% travel; mobile/field orientation with emphasis on serving clients in the community; requires strong knowledge of gerontology, crisis intervention, multicultural awareness, and ability to work effectively with difficult cases and diverse populations; background in social work, protective services, or related fields; drivers license and vehicle are required for job duties; position may be filled at levels I–IV with starting salary determined by education and experience; remote work not eligible for telework; must pass background checks and driving record checks; travel to homes/offices within and outside assigned region is common.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience (Adult Protective Services Investigator Specialist I)
- Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience (Adult Protective Services Investigator Specialist II)
- Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience (Adult Protective Services Investigator Specialist III)
- Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience (Adult Protective Services Investigator Specialist IV)
- Preferred Criteria: Coursework or degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Counseling, Education or related field
- Experience in government/nonprofit/school settings providing support to individuals or families in need
- Experience in case management, investigations, law enforcement or courtroom testimony related to protective/social services
- Experience conducting interviews or assessments with individuals or families regarding highly sensitive matters
- Driving a personal vehicle; reliable transportation and driving record required
