Job Summary
Maintain grounds, perform agricultural and animal husbandry tasks, and execute special projects for the Fishers AgriPark farm. Mow, trim lines, and adhere to Parks & Recreation Department standards while overseeing volunteers and assisting with public education. Work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed, with weekly hours ranging from 5 to 29 depending on the season. This non-benefited supplemental role requires physical labor in extreme conditions, driving a city vehicle, and following safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to work some weekends
- Must be able to perform physical duties of this role include working in the fields, caring for animals, and general labor and maintenance work in extreme outside conditions including the ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to be insured to drive a city vehicle which includes having at least 3 years of driving experience not including Learners' Permit time
Desired Qualifications
- Experience farming, grounds keeping, landscaping or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Skill in common agricultural practices, care of farm animals, and the use or operation of a variety of modern-day tools and equipment (e.g.. saws, drills, grinders, planters, plows, mowers, etc.)
- Ability to follow instructions, handle problems involving several variables in a familiar context, define problems, etc.
- Ability to recognize safety hazards
- Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to oversee volunteers
- Possess enthusiasm for working with the general public
