Job Summary
Apprentice Teachers observe Master Teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide substitute teaching coverage, tutor students, assist with assessments, and support classroom instruction. They may teach one class or small groups, plan and deliver instruction with increasing responsibility, participate in enrichment activities, organize student events, develop mentoring relationships with students, and engage in ongoing coaching and professional development to become strong candidates for full-time teaching positions. The role involves collaboration with instructional coaches, involvement in advisory/homeroom activities, and support across classroom duties including assessing student progress and contributing to curriculum and school-wide initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required by start of employment
- Experience in schools and/or urban communities preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills, especially with children
- Self-motivation, teamwork, and personal responsibility
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and participate in a fast-paced environment
- Observational and co-teaching skills; ability to participate in curriculum development
- Interest in progressing toward full-time teaching roles
