Job Summary
Apprentice Equipment Technician performs basic maintenance and heavy equipment repair under supervision, developing skills in diagnosis, removing, repairing, installing, disassembling, assembling, rebuilding, and reconditioning according to manufacturer specifications. Responsibilities include safety adherence, completing JHA’s, maintaining clean work areas, PPE usage, troubleshooting and repairs on engines and powertrain, inspecting/repairing external engine components, performing preventative maintenance and servicing hydraulic, electrical, HVAC, cab systems, and undercarriage components. Ability to read service manuals (STW/SIS), write service reports, and develop technician competencies while meeting warranty and client expectations. Requires ongoing education and training under supervision of Journeyman/Master Technicians; role emphasizes communication, teamwork, and a safety-first mindset.
Required Qualifications
- Proof of high school diploma or GED
- Associates degree in diesel technology, trade school diploma, or one-year equivalent experience in a Caterpillar or similar environment with hydraulic, engine and powertrain experience required
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
- Ability to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English)
- Appropriate technician level tooling required
