Apprentice Applicator

Job Summary
Apprentice Applicator responsible for safe and accurate application of dry fertilizer and lime to labeled crops, operating and maintaining application equipment, and building customer relations. Tasks include loading/unloading product, calibrating equipment, performing pre/post-application inspections, maintaining logs and safety practices, obtaining/state-certifications (commercial applicator, Ag CDL), and supporting field operations and customer service. Opportunity for career growth toward Custom Applicator; includes use of field maps and technology to ensure correct products and rates are applied, with emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and teamwork.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED; may be offset by experience
- Valid driver’s license; must be able to meet a Motor Vehicle Review in accordance with Company policy
- Must obtain and maintain required state commercial applicator certification as required by state
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Ag CDL
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers and represent Keystone in a professional and courteous manner
- Ability to read, count, write, and to utilize technology to accurately complete all documentation, including understanding shipping/applicator orders and tickets, product labels, SDS sheets, warning signs and emergency procedures
- Basic mechanical skills for daily maintenance of equipment preferred
- Be familiar with crop chemicals, nutrients, farming practices, and crop characteristics
- Possess the willingness to adapt to changing application technologies as well as seasonal variations in workload responsibilities
- Use technology to accurately locate application sites and read field maps
- Must be a team player and enjoy the effort necessary to contribute to a successful operation and company
- Required overtime as the season demands
- Physical Demands: lift more than 50 pounds, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license
- Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) clearance per policy
- State commercial applicator certification (or ability to obtain)
- Ag CDL (Agricultural Commercial Driver's License)
- Ability to read, count, write, and use technology for documentation
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift >50 pounds and perform physical duties
- Willingness to work overtime as season demands
- Familiarity with crop chemicals, nutrients, farming practices, and crop characteristics
- Commitment to safety rules and PPE
- Experience with equipment calibration and preventive maintenance (preferred)
- Ability to use field maps and locate application sites
- Customer-relations skills
- Ability to adapt to changing application technologies
- Knowledge of OSHA and DOT policies (as applicable)
- Bilingual abilities (benefit)
