Job Summary

Conduct deed research, assist the public, and maintain records and files while supporting Tax Appraisers II and III throughout the appraisal process. Perform field inspections of new construction, renovations, and demolitions to determine value, and interpret public assessment procedures and laws. Prepare reports, enter data into databases for ownership and address changes, and review entries for accuracy. Catalog and index property, manage scheduling and appeals for the Board of Assessor's, and promote a culture of excellent service. Requires obtaining George Department of Revenue Appraiser I or II certification within one year, holding a valid Georgia driver's license, and meeting minimum wage requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Moderate experience in real or personal property appraisal
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to obtain George Department of Revenue Appraiser I and/or II certification within one year or as time/schedule permits
  • Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records
  • Valid driver's license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR)
  • Ability to read and understand building construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to read and understand Profit and Loss statements and other financial reporting documents
  • Ability to analyze factors which tend to influence the value of property and to exercise judgment in the determination of property values
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public
  • Color perception
  • Vocal communication ability for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly
  • Hearing ability to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data
  • Ability to perform visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts
  • Ability to operate machines
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles or equipment
  • Ability to observe general surroundings and activities
  • Ability to perform occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force
  • Ability to frequently sit, reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, climb or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting
  • Ability to work in a moderately noisy location
