Job Summary

Conduct physical inspections of tangible personal property for businesses to determine fair market value for ad valorem tax purposes. Calculate valuations using tax return data, investigate incomplete returns, and respond to public inquiries regarding assessment methods. Identify new businesses for the tax roll and monitor changes in existing business locations or operations. Assist in litigation data preparation and appear before the Value Adjustment Board to defend assessments. Perform damage assessments and coordinate with emergency management offices during disasters, potentially requiring after-hours or weekend duties as an Emergency Responder. Maintain vehicle safety checks and work independently with minimal oversight.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least a minimum of six (6) years of experience as a TPP Appraiser or its equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, finance, or a related field
  • High School Diploma or possession of GED Certificate and six (6) years of experience as an appraiser in a government assessment office
  • Two years of experience as a private real estate appraiser
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies
  • Valid Florida Driver's License

  • Geographical competency of the real estate market in the Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA)
  • Ability to work in the field and tolerate the extremes of weather conditions common to Central Florida
  • Ability to use initiative to think independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to clearly communicate, in writing and orally, concepts related to the valuation of tangible personal property
  • Must be comfortable speaking in public
  • Ability to respond to general assessment inquiries from the public tactfully and courteously
  • Ability to work under stress when dealing with the public
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, outside agencies, and the public
  • Ability to use the Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal System (CAMA) and iPad field application to organize, plan, and prepare daily work activities
  • Working knowledge of the three recognized approaches to value and their applicability to tangible personal property
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Other related Personal Property designation
