Job Summary
Applied Physicist for CERN CMS Tracker software and data-acquisition tools. Develop online/offline software, databases, and UI tooling to support reception testing, validation of detector substructures, and commissioning/calibration of the Tracker at Point 5. Responsibilities include configuring and calibrating back-end electronics for Outer/Inner Tracker, participating in hardware integration tests at CERN (TIF), developing checkout/calibration procedures, and contributing to end-to-end workflow tooling. Role requires expert C++ and familiarity with Git/GitLab and CI; VHDL firmware knowledge is a plus. Supervisory responsibilities are expected. English required with willingness to learn French.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience
- National of CERN Member or Associate Member State
- Professional background in Electronics Engineering or Applied Physics (or related field)
- Proven experience in C++ and version control systems (Git/GitLab) with CI
- Experience with data acquisition routines and detector readout chains (front-end/back-end electronics, optical links) is an asset
- Spoken and written English; willingness to learn French
- Experience with databases, web/UI development, or online monitoring tools is an asset
- Ability to work in radiation areas and willingness to undergo related requirements
- Hybrid work arrangement; 40 hours per week
- Eligibility to undertake a CERN contract (no prior CERN fellow/graduate contract)
- Contract duration: 24 months with potential extension to 36 months
