Applied AI Engineer

Job Summary
Design and deliver AI solutions, including LLM-based applications, enterprise search, and document intelligence workflows to drive measurable business value across Engineering, Business Development, Manufacturing, and IT. Act as an internal AI consultant by facilitating discovery workshops, identifying opportunities, and leading change management efforts that improve efficiency and operational performance. Build proof-of-value prototypes demonstrating quick wins, while developing and maintaining AI systems across data ingestion, model integration, evaluation, and user-facing interfaces. Integrate these solutions with enterprise systems and APIs, ensuring they are grounded in trusted, governed data and aligned with cybersecurity standards. Apply responsible AI practices including testing, monitoring, and human oversight to support adoption by communicating capabilities to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role emphasizes rapid prototyping and practical implementation within Ovivo's global water and wastewater treatment organization, focusing on high-value use cases like workflow automation and data-driven insights.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, AI/ML engineering, or a related role
- Hands-on experience building, testing, and deploying AI or machine learning solutions
- Experience translating business problems into technical solutions and working with cross-functional stakeholders
- Experience leading discovery sessions, stakeholder engagement, change management initiatives, or technology adoption efforts in a business environment
- Proficiency in using tools such as Python or similar technologies and API-based software development
- Experience with generative AI, including large language models, prompt engineering, and embeddings
- Strong understanding of SQL, enterprise data platforms, and data governance
- Experience building AI applications, document processing, and enterprise search patterns
- Ability to evaluate and optimize AI systems for performance, accuracy, and cost
- Familiarity with model monitoring, evaluation, and observability
- Understanding of responsible AI practices including privacy, security, and human-in-the-loop design
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and production support skills
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and drive stakeholder alignment
- This position is located in Round Rock, Texas
- roughly 50% of the time in our Round Rock, Texas office
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with document intelligence or enterprise knowledge systems
- Experience with workflow automation, backend development, or lightweight UI development
- Exposure to production AI operations, governance frameworks, or model risk management
- Experience serving as an internal consultant, product owner, or technical advisor for business transformation initiatives
