Application Support Analyst (Middle East Hours)

Job Summary

Write, troubleshoot, and optimise SQL queries, scripts, and PL/SQL code to resolve client issues and perform detailed root cause analysis on database structures. Act as a technical escalation point for advanced database and application issues, reviewing existing queries to enhance performance, accuracy, and efficiency. Work directly with clients to gather requirements, translate them into SQL-based solutions, and validate fixes during UAT while ensuring delivery against SLAs and KPIs. Mentor junior analysts in SQL development and debugging approaches. This role adheres to Middle East Hours (GST) from Sunday through Thursday, operates on a hybrid model with three days of working from home, and is based in the Cape Town office.

Required Qualifications

  • 4–6+ years' experience in application or technical support within enterprise software
  • Strong, practical experience writing complex SQL queries from scratch
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle PL/SQL, including developing stored procedures, triggers, and packages
  • Proven ability to build, modify, and optimise SQL statements to solve real business problems
  • Experience with query performance tuning (indexes, execution plans, optimisation techniques)
  • Strong understanding of relational database design and data structures
  • Ability to work with large datasets and extract meaningful insights via SQL
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical, structured approach
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluent in English
  • The role is adhering to Middle East Hours (GST) and Public Holidays
  • These hours would consist of 8:30am to 5:00pm GST from Sunday through Thursday
  • This role is based in the Cape Town office
  • We operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week
  • This role is ideal for someone with strong hands-on experience writing SQL and PL/SQL
  • You will take ownership of complex, database-driven support cases
  • You will be responsible for writing, reviewing, and optimising SQL statements
  • You will diagnose issues at source
  • You will ensure long-term, scalable resolutions
  • You will act as a key escalation point
  • You will perform detailed root cause analysis, identifying issues within database structures, queries, or data integrity
  • You will review and improve existing queries to enhance performance, accuracy, and efficiency
  • You will work directly with clients to gather requirements and translate them into SQL-based solutions
  • You will ensure delivery against SLAs and KPIs
  • You will contribute to documentation, including SQL scripts, troubleshooting steps, and best practices
  • You will mentor junior analysts, particularly in SQL development and debugging approaches
  • You will participate in UAT, validating data fixes and database-related changes
