Job Summary
The Applications & Product Development Supervisor oversees the management of the Product Engineering Services, including design, engineering documentation, and BOM accuracy to support production. Responsible for ensuring drawings and bill-of-material information are accurate and usable by production, and for maintaining familiarity with company products, components, and manufacturing processes. Manages estimating, design, analysis, and testing functions for new applications, with responsibilities spanning new product development, research and development, and improvements to existing products. Supervises and coordinates the Engineering Department, maintains key company IP, and interfaces with sales, manufacturing, and QA to maximize growth and minimize customer returns. Produces customer design drawings and manufacturing process drawings for sales/marketing activities, issues product design requirements to designers, and ensures conformance to specifications. Provides technical marketing support by generating PowerPoint presentations for the sales force and presenting to customers or during onsite visits. Develops and implements test programs, plans, and reports to ensure compliance with customer or industry specifications, and participates in setting design criteria to establish commercial standards. Stays current with advances in materials and gear technology to propose enhancements, and engages in new product development and R&D efforts. Oversees department staff and directs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of exempt level experience in a similar role or any combination of experience, education and training which would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required
- Knowledgeable of engineering drawings, geometric tolerance, mechanical design, stress analysis, familiarity with test methods, and the properties of a variety metals
- Testing procedures
- Strong systems knowledge
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software
- Familiarity with bill-of-material structure creation
- Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Presentation skills to speak in front of groups
- Leadership skills to effectively manage the department staff
- Experience with New Product Development and Research and Development efforts
- Supervisory experience of an Engineering Department
