Application Engineer - Industrial

Job Summary
Design and lead experiments using Thermo Fisher's dissolved gas separation products while delivering comprehensive application support across the LiquiCEL portfolio. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful solution implementation, support new application development, and assist with new product introductions. Operate and maintain systems in an industrial laboratory environment, assembling, testing, and managing equipment where conditions fluctuate and PPE is required. Work with manufacturing and quality teams to drive global technology adoption and optimize customer research and manufacturing processes.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree with no prior experience required, OR Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience with relevant instrumentation and applications
- Expertise or experience with physical chemistry, water flow, and dissolved gas concentration
- Experience with SEM, EDC, and TOC
- Demonstrated expertise in laboratory processes, workflows, and data management principles
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards, including FDA, ISO, GLP, and GMP
- Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical requirements
- Demonstrated ability to make technically sound contributions that advance knowledge within a technical specialty and develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver technical presentations
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of cross-functional teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and virtual communication platforms
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential and proprietary information
- Ability to adapt to varying work schedules
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality
- Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance
- Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards
- Comfortable working with hazardous/toxic materials
- Comfortable performing hands-on work in an industrial laboratory and engineering setting
- Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, with heavier lifts performed using appropriate assistance or lifting devices
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach above shoulder height while assembling, inspecting, operating, and maintaining equipment
- Climb ladders or step stools when building or operating laboratory systems
- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements associated with equipment assembly, testing, and operation
- Demonstrate manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate small components, fittings, instrumentation, and tools
- Safely operate hand and power tools
- Work in confined or restricted spaces as needed during system assembly, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Work in an industrial laboratory environment where environmental conditions may not always be controlled
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred fields of study include Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Fluid Dynamics, or a related technical discipline
- Experience with water treatment and filtration is advantageous
- Additional certifications in relevant technical specialties are advantageous
