Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, risk stratification, and patient education for adult patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. Monitor clinical progress during daily inpatient rounds, adjust care plans, and perform procedures such as chest tube removal, wound care, and suture/staple removal. Order and interpret diagnostic studies to initiate interventions, manage post-op complications, and facilitate discharge planning with medication reconciliation. Serve as first or second assist in the operating room when credentialed, coordinate care transitions between units, and conduct post-op follow-up visits. Provide patient education on recovery and cardiac health, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and maintain accurate EMR documentation. This union position requires on-call coverage outside scheduled hours.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a master's, postmaster's, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice (physical or virtual)
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
  • National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC)
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form
  • 1–3 years of experience in cardiovascular/thoracic surgery, critical care, or surgical specialties

Desired Qualifications

  • If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred
  • Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP)
