Job Summary
Manage acute and chronic illness in adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations with predicted short hospital stays within the ED Observation Unit. Function at the top of your scope for autonomy while collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers. Maintain proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer systems. Complete a tailored 10-week orientation to establish a strong foundation in this fast-paced environment. Shifts include day, evening, night, shared weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (for Nurse Practitioners)
- Eligibility for prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications as appropriate to the position
- Demonstration and maintenance of all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing, and applicable certifying bodies
- Meeting practice and managed care credentialing requirements and qualifying for malpractice insurance coverage
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer systems
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
