Job Summary
Conduct live online classes teaching Physical and Human Geography to high school students, delivering interactive lessons on topics ranging from climate and ecosystems to urbanization and globalization. Develop course content including lesson plans and activities aligned with the AP Human Geography curriculum. Guide students through exam preparation using practice questions and strategies for multiple-choice and free-response sections. Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and tailor lessons to diverse learning styles. Maintain communication with students and families to monitor academic growth. Stay updated on AP curriculum changes and best practices for virtual instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Social Studies, Education, or a related field
- Minimum 2+ years of prior experience teaching AP Human Geography or similar geography courses at the high school level
- Strong foundation in both Physical Geography (climate, ecosystems, landforms) and Human Geography (population, urbanization, political geography)
- Expertise in both Physical Geography and Human Geography
- Familiarity with the AP Human Geography exam format and strategies for preparing students for both multiple-choice questions and free-response questions (FRQs)
- Ability to engage students in meaningful discussions, case studies, and real-world applications of geographic knowledge
- Strong classroom management skills, both in-person and virtually
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex geographic concepts clearly
- Proficiency in using online teaching tools and learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom, interactive whiteboards)
- Proficiency in using digital tools such as Google Slides, Zoom, and interactive whiteboards
- Proficiency in using Zoom for live teaching and interactive sessions
- A reliable internet connection and professional teaching setup for virtual classes
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in AP Human Geography or College Board training (preferred but not mandatory)
